Pure World Assistance for Women Public Union presented its project "Use of Public Advocacy Mechanisms of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
The project is funded by Counterpart International. The aim of the project is to eliminate all forms of discrimination and domestic violence against women and succeed in the recognition of women's equal rights in all spheres.
Mehriban Zeynalova, the head of the project, noted that, in 2011, about 40 women were murdered and up to 800 women suffered from serious injuries in frames of domestic violence.
The attendees of the event accused the police for indifferent approach to the violence against women. Coercive and early marriages were also mentioned as part of domestic violence.
It was proposed to increase the number of female police employee as a solution to it. Quite surprisingly, it was also proposed to install security cameras at the apartments to prevent domestic violence.
Another proposal was: to work out effective mechanisms of the law on the prevention of domestic violence, and create a Public Council under State Committee for Family Women and Children Affairs.
It is planned to promote slogans like "equal employment -- equal salary", "equal rights -- equal opportunities", "equal profession -- equal choices" and so on. Reports on discrimination and violence against women were proposed to be sent to the UN.
