On June 5th, Administrative-Economic Court #1, under judge Sevinj Aliyeva, held a preparatory meeting regarding the appeal by youth activist Ulvi Hasanli against Azerbaijan Tourism University. The plaintiff and his legal representative Intigam Aliyev attended the hearing; despite an official court summons, the defendant did not attend.
The judge heard the petitions by the plaintiff and scheduled the case for June 25th 4:00pm.
Ulvi Hasanli was arrested for his involvement in the March 11th – Great People’s Day rally, and sentenced to 7 days in jail. For being absent from classes during these 7 days, the university refused to let him take his exams. Further to this, Hasanli paid 240 AZN and passed his exams, but later appealed to the court for repayment, on the grounds that the initial ban was unlawful.
