On April 14th, the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Youth Committee's Department for Women held a "Tender Future" event that focused on women's rights and their participation in social and political life of the country. Bayim Hasanli, the moderator of the event, emphasized the level of female participation in political events. Kama Sergeyenvna, head of the Committee Department, reported on women's problems. "50.4 percent of Azerbaijan's population is female. Azerbaijan is 91st of 135 countries for gender equality. There are few women officials or public figures, for which Azerbaijan holds 117th place. 28.3 percent of public servants and only 16.2 percent of entrepreneurs are women. Women make up 16 percent of all MPs. In terms of women's access to secondary education, Azerbaijan holds 101st place internationally," said committee chair, citing the World Economic Forum report from 2011. There are three main challenges for women: their participation in the government and ruling circles, weak social influence and low levels of property ownership. There is no state program that targets women's political integration. Yegana Hajiyeva, adviser to the Musavat Party chairman, believes that there will be no development in any country where the independence of women is not guaranteed. Mehriban Aliyeva, head of the NGO Regional Women's Initiative, said that the situation for women is more difficult in the regions. The event made an appeal to Azerbaijani women: "We call on Azerbaijani women to support for their children's happy futures and the solid foundation of their families. We call them not to be indifferent to their fates. We ask them to demand explanations from those who exploit their labor. Democratic rights and freedoms have been gained by cooperation between men and women."
