Select Category:
On May 27, a group of female employees made redundant from AzeriGas Production Association held a press conference. According to them, the redundancy affected not only the gas producing areas in Baku, but all of such areas across the country, and as a result 900 female employees have lost their job. Only female staff are cut. They said that on March 27 of this year they received notifications about job cuts due to reconstruction of gas producing fields. In the notification they were promised to be provided with other jobs. They had not submitted voluntary resignation. Chief of the fields told the employees that they would be paid 5 times as much as their current salaries if they wrote voluntary resignation. Otherwise they were warned to be dismissed being paid only one month's salary. Due to this all female employees wanted to meet with AzeriGas leadership which did not take place. Ruslan Aliyev, deputy chairman of the Production Association told the women that "high officials" were aware of this. When women said that they would complain to Rovnag Abdullayev, the president of Azerbaijan Republic State Oil Company, Ruslan Aliyev said he had been informed about the process as well. Abdullayev added that the order of dismissal was given by high officials. Female employees assessed this move as arbitrariness, neglect of the Labor Code and discrimination. Though they've appealed to the Presidential Administration and Ombudswoman, there has been no reaction. The women once again addressed an appeal to the head of the state Ilham Aliyev through the press conference. They stated that they consider taking the matter to court in order to protect their rights.
