This week the American Congress, the European Union and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will be addressed for the inclusion of Shaki Grave Crimes Court Judges Elchin Kazimov, Rashid Huseynov and Baku Grave Crimes Court judges Javid Huseynov, Novruz Karimov, Rauf Aliyev and Azer Orujov into the “Magnitsky list”. Leyla Yunus, director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy said at the press conference held on June 23. These judges handed lengthy jail sentences to 8 activists of NIDA Civic Movement, REAL movement leader Ilgar Mammadov, deputy chairman of Musavat Party Tofig Yagublu and Yadigar Sadigov, journalists Parviz Hashimli, Hilal Mammadov, civil society activists Anar Mammadli and Bashir Suleymanli, who have been recognized by international human rights organization as political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. The document has been prepared by the Movement of Resistance to Repressions, founded by Leyla Yunus and named “Azerbaijani analogue” of “Magnitsky list”. On June 23, representatives of Azerbaijani civil society presented the “Declaration on necessity of Azerbaijan’s integration to European Union” at the press center of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. It was noted at the conference that Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia will sign association agreement with EU on June 27 and Azerbaijan also received such proposal. But Baku tries to avoid signing this agreement citing facing the country’s as excuse. The conference participants believe that Azerbaijan’s membership in Eurasian Economic Union would not bring anything positive to the country. Europe has to sign association agreement with the country along with the strategic cooperation as it supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and democratic principles. On June 23-24, trial resumed on the case of human rights activists, head of the Ganja- based “Intelligent Citizen” Enlightenment Center, Hasan Huseynli in Ganja city Nizami District Court. The process was chaired by Judge Ayaz Mahmudov. According to the lawyer Alayif Hasanov, two prosecution witnesses claimed that Huseynli had stabbed the victim. The defense filed motions for requesting camera surveillance camera footages from the place of incident and judgments on several other cases heard in Nizami and Kapaz District Courts of Ganja. Judge dismissed the motions.
