FAMILIES OF DEAD SOLDIERS CONTINUE STRUGGLE
Select Category:
Parents of the soldiers who died during military service in the past four years held a regular press conference at the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS). At the last press conference on February 20, they demanded an objective investigation into the death of their sons, to reveal the true causes of their deaths. Families of dead soldiers Ismail Ibadov, Elkhan Azizov, Elchin Kerimbeyli and others say they are exhausted from futile comings and goings to the courts. "Some of the parents, unable to stand this loss, died. Some are ill, and some cannot do anything for being hard-up," said the head of the NGO "Victims of the Truce", Bayali Azizov. Some parents are unhappy with the Defense Minister, Zakir Hasanov. They noted that after the change of the Minister, the commanders of military units, where soldiers died, were elevated in rank. "Despite appointment of a new minister, soldier mortality did not reduce. The problem is not only about the Ministry of Defense, but the entire system of government," said Ali Kerimbeyli. Over six months of this year the losses of the armed forces totaled 47 people, including 37 in non combat circumstances. Parents also complained of the indifference of the state bodies to whom they had appealed. Parents demand to award their children the status of martyr, and payment of insurance compensation. They also intend to continue their struggle to find out the truth about their sons' deaths.
