REKTOR OF BAKU STATE UNIVERSITY THREATENS PROTESTING STUDENT
Select Category:
On February 20, students of Baku State University held a protest against the Cabinet of Ministers decision on extra credit hour charges. Today the rector of the university, Abel Maharramov and representatives of the Ministry of Education met with the displeased students. The students complained about the problems in the field of education and unlawfulness that they faced at the university. Fourth year student Ramila Kichiyeva claims that in January of this year she was required a bribe after failing the exam on the “History of Slavic Countries.” “The lecturer wanted that I pay 70 manat as a bribe. I am the daughter of a Karabakh war veteran. I don’t have money to pay a bribe. How long will it go on like this?” she said, receiving a storm of applause from other students. In response, rector Abel Maharramov said he knew this student well. According to him, Ramila Kichiyeva was expelled from the university for three times, but each time he helped her to be reinstated. But this time, Maharramov told the lawyer of the university to sue Ramila Kichiyeva for defaming the university and the lecturer in front of all other people.
