The youth detained during the protest against the court verdict on NIDA activists appeared before the Nasimi District Court on May 7. Court handed down 15 days of administrative detention to Tural Abbasli, Shafi Shafiyev, and Haji Zeynalli, 30 days to Kamala Bananyarli, and 20 days to Orkhan Ayyubzadeh. Other activists, Togrul Ibrahim, Turkel Alisoy, Orkhan Rustemzadeh and Rahman Mammadli were fined 400-600 AZN. APFP member Rasul Mursalov was freed after being warned. Note that the detainees did not have lawyers. They were members of NIDA and "Azad Genjlik" movements, Musavat party and Popular Front Party. Today while detained protesters were being tried, the journalists covering the process once again faced pressure. Obyektiv TV reporter Huseyn Azizoglu was assaulted and beaten by a plainly clothed man. The journalist was injured, his camera was damaged and eyeglasses were broken. Note that on May 6, Baku Court on Grave Crimes gave 6-8 years prison sentence to 7 activists of Nida and Azad Genjlik member. A group of youth protesting the court verdict chanted "Release!" and sang the national anthem. The police dispersed the crowd forcefully, prevented the journalists from covering the protest. Their cameras were broken, tablets were seized. A number of journalists were injured. Moreover the reporter of the "Yeni Musavat" newspaper Mahammad Turkman, employee of Mediaforum webpage Amid Suleymanov and "Azadlig" newspaper reporter Khalid Garayev were released after 3 hours detention in Sabail District Police Office.
