At June 18 hearing of Baku Grave Crimes Court on the case of blogger Omar Mammadov, prosecution requested 6 year jail sentence for the activist. Mammadov's lawyer Khalid Bagirov giving closing speech noted that offence of the accused was not proven with evidence. The investigation was conducted through severe due process violations. Especially, the report about Mammadov's possession of drug was not examined. Operatives exceeded their powers by acting like investigator. Operation itself was conducted without the order of the court. Finally, after detention Mammadov was denied access to his lawyer. The lawyer stated that law enforcement agencies commit arbitrariness. In the end Khalid Bagirov called on the court to acquit Mammadov. Judge Eldar Mikayilov adjourned the process till June 28. Note that Omar Mammadov is a member of Civil Solidarity party and the head of the "Akhin" (Flow) youth movement. After his arrest he re-joined NIDA movement. Mammadov was active user of social networks. Notably he was one of the admin of the Facebook Page "Exclusives from AzTV" which shared cartoons, photo collage, and comments making fun of the officials' mistakes. In January of 2014 he was arrested on charge of drug possession.
